Driving an electric truck at Wibax

In recent years, electric trucks have become more and more prominent on our roads. Wibax is proud to be part of this transition, not just by using electric trucks but also by building our own charging infrastructure to ensure a sustainable future for transport and logistics.

A quieter and more sustainable working environment One of the most noticeable differences when driving an electric truck is the quiet working environment. This is due to the electric motor being quieter and smoother in operation, as there is no combustion engine generating vibrations. The electric truck’s drivetrain is more focused on delivering a smooth and comfortable driving experience, with fewer vibrations, which can reduce fatigue compared to driving a combustion engine truck. The lower noise level also helps drivers stay more focused, which in turn improves safety. The spontaneous feedback we’ve received from our drivers operating electric trucks includes comments on the quiet working environment and reduced vibrations — many say they feel more energised after a shift. The fact that the electric truck runs without gears also contributes to a smoother driving experience, which is greatly appreciated. It’s also easier to maintain a consistent temperature inside the cab, even on chilly days. Simpler maintenance Another advantage of driving an electric truck is the reduced need for repairs. An electric truck has fewer moving parts than a diesel vehicle, which means less maintenance and, over time, lower operating costs. For example, electric vehicles don’t require oil changes, saving both time and money. All new drivers undergo training before starting work as a driver at Wibax. Those who will be driving electric trucks also learn specific operating and handling procedures. The difference between driving an electric truck and a diesel vehicle isn’t as significant as some may think. Charging and range To ensure maximum efficiency, Wibax is investing in its own charging infrastructure at Wibax depots as well as at customer sites. This allows us to charge during loading and unloading, eliminating the need to stop solely for charging. In summary Working as a driver in an electric truck means an exciting and improved working environment. At Wibax, we are proud to be part of the green transition in the transport sector. Quiet and sustainable driving provides a better working environment and helps reduce the environmental impact of transport. For Wibax, electric trucks are a good fit because our delivery network keeps us close to our customers. Despite some logistical and technical challenges, this type of transport offers a future that combines innovation, sustainability and efficiency on the roads. Wibax currently operates three electric trucks based in Piteå, Härnösand and Skutskär, delivering to nearby industrial customers. Two more trucks are expected to join the fleet in 2025 — one will be based in southern Sweden and the other in Finland. With these trucks, we move a step closer to our goal of a 100 percent fossil-free, electric vehicle fleet powered entirely by self-produced electricity by 2030.
