Sodium sulphate

moln

Sodium sulfate (Glauber's salt) is a hygroscopic salt, which is used as the source of sodium and sulfur as pulping chemicals for pulp production, and as fillers in paper.

Sodium sulfate (Na2(SO4)) is also used for pH-adjustment, particularly in dye baths in the textile industry, but also in food and medicine for hypergastrineamia and in laxatives. Medical Glauber’s salt is used as a mild laxative. As a food additive sodium has E-number 514.
Glauber’s salt has a low melting point (32°C) and high melting heat (242kJ/kg) and is therefore also suitable for energy storage in solar collectors. Sodium sulfate is used in the production of sodium sulfide, ultramarine, tar colors and in glass manufacture where the substance is added to the melted glass process to facilitate the melting and prevent the formation of bubbles.
