Sodium bisulphite

Sodium bisulphite (sodium hydrogen sulfate) is an acidic corrosive solution, which is used for the reduction of chlorate, which occurs when chlorine dioxide is added in the bleaching process of Kraft pulping.

Sodium bisulphite (NaHSO3) is also used as a preservative, antioxidant and stabilizer in food products. As a food additive (E-number 222), the product is used to preserve color and to prevent bacterial growth on e.g. fruit and vegetables.
