Ammonium sulphate is a salt of ammonia and sulfuric acid, suitable for mixing with slurry, biological fertilizer or other liquid fertilizers, and the production of other ammonium salts.
Ammonium sulphate ([NH4]2SO4) appears when sulfuric acid is saturated with ammonia, after which the ammonium sulphate precipitates as crystalline forms in large rhomboid crystals, slightly salt-tasting and highly soluble in water.
Chemically pure ammonium sulphate is used for chemical analysis and in the medical field. In biochemistry ammonium sulphate precipitation is a common method for purifying proteins. As a food additive ammonium sulphate has the E-number E 517.
