Wibax’ electric truck is fully operational

At the start of the year, Wibax and Scania launched an electric, ADR approved truck with a capacity of 64 tonnes. The electric truck is now fully opperational, with two shifts per day on weekdays. The truck is based at Wibax in Piteå and provides deliveries to nearby customers

Lighter electric trucks have been on the market for some time, but for Wibax it is important that trucks are able to haul heavier cargo. We invest heavily in sustainability, but sustainability requires profitability in order to be truly sustainable.

”This is Wibax’ fist electric truck, but we are planning to invest in more such trucks in 2023. Our aim is to become leading in the field of fossil free logistics, and our goal is to have a vehicle fleet that is 80 percent fossil fuel free by 2030, meaning that electric trucks will have a role to play”, explains Jonas Wiklund, CEO Wibax Group.

The vehicle is built to have a range of 100 kilometres per charge, to cover the Piteå – Skellefteå route. As the truck is the first of its kind, it is undergoing a number of tests in order to promote future development. Recently, a full load test run was made to our Skelleftehamn terminal, a test that was passed by some margin.

We currently have our own charging stations in Piteå and Skellefteå, and are working to develop a network of charging stations, so that we will be able to charge electric trucks during loading and unloading at returning customers.

According to our drivers, the truck is pleasant to drive, quiet and vibration-free, meaning a considerably improved work environment. The truck is pictured below, during charging at our Skelleftehamn terminal.
